Whitdale House Care Home2/9/2014 As part of research for my 4th year Honours degree i visited Whitdale House Care Home today to perform and discuss music. This was organised trough Music for Hospitals. I was a little unsure how today would go as Im still a little unsure really what I'm going to be researching apart from the fact that I was to explore the effects that music has on people.
I am really interested in how music brings back memories and can put people in a euphoric state. I need to explore the reasons for this so I have decided to work with Music In Hospitals to explore this and provided my services with them in return for gaining research for my project. Today I got the fantastic opportunity to spend the afternoon with 25 people aged between 80 to 100. I pulled together a programme based on 15 songs that covered a lot of ground but all had the same topics which was love or the love of something. One thing i really noticed was how many people loved to sing along and how everyone was in unison, almost what i would call a euphoric state. AS i was sing i was kind of feeling I was get led to what my project question was going to be... except i could quiet get the words out..... ha ha ha good start! i can see it,,,, it almost here.... I think the best thing is for me to discuss it all a little more with Dr McAlpine. I hoping to get moving ob this fast while the enthuisism is high.
