Class 8

Our conversation started today about not having to worry about the research proposal and that there are many of us possibly suffering from anxiety. This good to hear that you’re not on your own and that in two weeks, baby Sweeney will be here and the project will be handed in. Just for the record Baby Sweeney is more important but lets get this project done and get my enthusiasm for the study across.

We started with the advice on looking at the different approaches to research and decided which one you are taking.  It could scientific; it could be with utilitarian thought process. Look back at the blackboard site to decided which ones that would be available.

The evaluation = project aim.

A really good project aim could have your methods and results built into it, some type of explanation on what will be achieved.

Say…. The project will do this…….. What are the easiest ways of gathering the data that you need?

A good project aim will have a bit of context. In the aim say why you want to show this. The evaluation will fall out of the aim. A possible professional need, possible an investigation that could help support future written songs.

In my case I’m researching the measurable benefits of live performance music of people in palliative care.  People in palliative care seem to have more a focus on what matters in music to them. It possibly be because of that their on focus is on their condition and that their mind is free to grasp hold of something special in music due to their mind being freed of other stuff, like having to get up and go to work or feeding the dog or something else.

I am wondering if people who are busier in life get more of that impact that hits them as they are so busy in their day to day life that it hits them more when that hear a piece of music that they like or means something.

OBJECTIVES – the skills that fell out of the project aim.

Project concept and development
Evaluating the research data
Executing the project
Evaluation
Dissemination.
Objective 4, EVALUATION

TASK

4.1Define the conditions or criteria for a successful project.
The mechanisms for getting the results are taking the data from the concerts.  The data will give me the juice I need to fill the task with the information that I need. It is important to specify the methods to then gather the information to then evaluate the data.

4.2 Methods – identify, define and apply suitable methods
Questionnaires, AB comparisons.
4.3 Sociology may be an area to look at to help analysis of define and applying anayasis.
4.5 reflect on aim/objectives
Lecture
Linking theory to practice
Proposal reminders – 8 books reference not all-8 need to be in there.

2000 words
-       State the position, where there are gaps in the knowledge how my research fills the gaps.
-       The proposal is a summary. A small lit review.
SCHOOL OF TOUGHT AND THEORIES

Technological determinism – Technology arrives and it changes the behaviours we have. Determined and idea of economist Thorstein Veblen. 1857 -1929
