At the moment we are looking at a selection of tunes, the first one we did today was Solar by the miles Davis Quinte. A song set in Fmajor, (one flat B). No Vocals in this song but i was able to look at the parts and try to get an understanding of what the guys are trying to do, very useful.

Also looked again at This Masquerade, the version we did consisted of a verse chorus verse and then solos from piano, guitar, sax, bass then back into the verse chorus to finish on a verse.....

singing over this has really shown me the importance of singers knowing their modes and scales, because when it comes to me doing a solos i was struggling to know what notes to hit... its easier when your singing the lyrics because you know how it goes... lesson learned!!!!!!

Myself and Andy have agreed to work out a few licks where he will play a run and i will copy it so its like a guitar and voice solo, this should be interesting. I have recorded our first practice so we can compare next weeks... I feel everything is a little loud and because of this it gets a bit hard to pick out the chords, even when i was recording it the sensitivity of the mic had to be taken down to -40.. this is a learning curve for all involved to be aware that you dont need to blast things out (says the ACDC fan)

Looking forward to next weeks practice to see what it brings and if there is any improvements. i know i will be looking at the scales to improve my tunning of the song WHICH IS OUT and the solos i do....

We have choosen three songs to perform at he JAZZ bar. Summertime. This Masquerade and Freddie Freeloader.
