DAY 3 Newcastle Think Tank

11/6/2015

Tonight we were in Newcastle at the Think Tank. I’ve heard lots about this venue so I was excited to be playing here. There was a good few videos on line when I was doing my research for the songs that were filmed at the Think Tank so I feel I know it well.

We drove from Edinburgh to Newcastle and checked into the hotel. The hotel was amazing and there were rumours that this is where Motley Crue stayed, however we later found out it could have been the sister hotel. It was strange as the staff were saying to us when we asked, we can’t confirm or deny that. They must have been sworn to secrecy.

When we got to the venue we loaded in and got set up and sound checked. This was the perfect opportunity to run through the mistakes from the night before. Jizzy gave us direction on what we were looking to do and to be honest the nerves were still there a little. I hate it when people say aww that s good for you… eye ok!

Its interesting as I have been purposely stepping back and soaking in a lot of what is going on observing people and what they are saying and acting and it s pretty funny how people change and act. Nothing bad but behaviours are fascinating to see. I did this on the Dan Reed tour also and I learned a lot and got a lot of motivation for the new songs I am working on.

We are only on the second date and already a similar feeling is coming across that I got on the Dan Reed Network tour. The music is all its really about. The more stories I hear from Jizzy on these guys that I grew up listening to the more its important I feel I just need to do what I want to do. The Love hate gigs really mark the end of a lot of hard work this year. Im looking forward to starting my new ideas and sticking with them. Follow your gut as they say.

The King Lot set went really well. I was completely happy with the performance. I used the Fender Bass for it and its defo got a lighter tone. I will probably just stick to the music man for our stuff as it give more ping and bottom end and the rattle that it gives help heavy the lower frequencies.

LOVEHATE GIG

Amazing set. Ive taken on the roll of looking after the King Jizzo. Making sure his water is there, mic stands and leads unravelled and really overall supporting him so he can do his thing. It was good to get 5 mins alone with him to chat as everyone is always around getting involved telling their stories. He gave some good advice on what he does vocally and so I appreciated that couple of minutes. I didn’t want to be rude as its stuff ive read and heard about before but its great to get that reinforcement.

Breathing in singing is something I need to do more of so over the last few days I have been working on the release of air exercises.  The one ive taken to is breathing in for 4, holding for 7 then releasing for 8, its amazing how relaxed it makes you feel. Its actually a meditation breathing technique.

The whole gig was buzzing and I just love the energy from the crowd. It would be just amazing to be in Jizzys position having people singing back my songs and tour round with the family and im sure that day will come when there is a balance like that.

Overall the performance was great, jIzzy was happy, there is a few things to work on but so far we are heading in the right direction.

Today gig was dedicated to our driver and crew member Ozzy, he is a hard worker.
